History Of Aston Martin Vantage

In late 2007, as a part of the opening of Aston Martin’s own design studio, the Aston Martin Vantage RS was introduced as a concept vehicle. Showcasing the 5.9-liter V12 engine from the Aston Martin DBS, the Aston Martin Vantage RS claimed 510hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque as well as a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 4.2-seconds and a top speed of 190 mph. Other upgrades to the Vantage V8 would include lightweight body panels of carbon-fiber, a redesigned rear diffuser, a retractable rear wing and high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes.

In 2008, Aston Martin confirmed production of the Aston Martin Vantage V12 RS for mid-2009. As promised, the production version of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage was introduced in 2009 – this time without the RS. The famous British television show host Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear described the car as, “Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful” after a few laps around the track.

Later that year, the Aston Martin CEO announced that the V12 Vantage would be coming to America. Although small structural changes to the Aston Martin V12 Vantage would be required for the car to pass muster in North and South America, a Carbon Black version was added specifically for the U.S. market.

In 2013, an even more capable version of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage was introduced. The Aston Martin V12 Vantage S was equipped with an upgraded 5.9-liter V12 that could make 565hp and 457 lb.-ft. of torque. Using a new 7-speed Sportshift III automated sequential transmission and an exhaust system derived from the Aston Martin One-77, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8-seconds and had a top speed of 205 mph.

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster was revealed in 2014 and a 7-speed dog-leg manual transmission was finally offered for production in 2016. Only 100 manual transmission cars were produced for sale in the U.S. The Aston Martin V12 Vantage S remained in production until 2018. It was succeeded by the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which remains in production at the time of this article.
